As I shot this photo, an innocent child romping in the park loudly exclaimed, “Look, Mommy, it’s Grandma’s pants!” He was right. This six-foot tall, four-foot wide contemporary sculpture has a striking resemblance to bright orange spandex shoved up the largest of all beef curtains. Built in 1972, this sculpture was a gift to the City of Portland. It was resurrected in 2003, and placed in the heart of the Pearl to remind everybody to dress fashionably while walking around Portland’s contemporary art district. —Maria Perry |
