The Internet is chockfull of people with irrelevant ideas and plenty of time on their hands. Using their web page building skills, the Internet allows people to be their mouthpiece to scream their message to the world. Some have messages of hate, some of love.
Still, there are those webmasters who straddle the fine line between pop culture analysis and goofy fun. For the creator of Hello Kitty Has No Mouth website, their time and attention has turned to why the beloved feline cartoon is missing the ability to vocalize her thoughts. Even though Sanrio, the creator of Hello Kitty, states that she doesn’t need a mouth because “she speaks from her heart. She is Sanrio's ambassador to the world who isn't bound to one certain language!” the Tims have written reasons why she really doesn’t have lips. In a series of poetic sentences, The Tims offer pithy ideas ranging from “Hello Kitty has no mouth, yet she's the reigning 'Star Search' lip synch champion” to “Hello Kitty has no mouth, and by this time her lungs are aching for air” as explanation of her lack of a mouth.
The list reads like a Zen mantra. What is also fascinating is the anger and ire that their page has caused from Hello Kitty fanatics. In the Frequently Asked Question section, readers’ responses range from wonderment [“What are you trying to say with this ridiculous message???”(sic)] to downright hatred [“I think your page sucks, and its immature. we all know that you're just some guy(s) with no life tryig to get a joke. what kinda guy would like hello kitty, you must be fruity!”(sic)].
Addressing Hello Kitty’s lack of a mouth has caused many people to write the Tims but they adamantly state that they are actually big fans of the voiceless feline. They write, “I'll have you know we adore Hello Kitty. She speaks to us. Yes, even without a mouth. She speaks to our souls. There's not a month goes by that I don't stop in to have my fortune told by her.” So, whether the Tims are on the track to true enlightenment contemplating the meaning of Hello Kitty’s mouthless face or it’s a brilliant waste of time, the Tims have definitely offered the cartoon cat a voice on the Internet.
