Sonic Youth: Still Young, Still Vital - extended version for Tabletmag.com
By Josh Davis
I don’t have idols, but I do have heroes. Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Ozzy and Sonic Youth come to mind. Over the years, I’ve never thought that any of them were bigger than life or meant to be put on a pedestal, but I have always appreciated their songs, their integrity and their contributions to music. ...MORE

Birth of a Band
By Bryan Costanich
Seattle's own dance band, United State of Electronica (U.S.E.), is rockin' the music industry in a big way and creating a growing community. U.S.E. began very modestly two years ago when Jonathan Khanjian, AKA Jon-e Rock, drummer and (sometimes rapper) wanted to jam on his birthday with a track he wrote on his laptop. With the mantra, “Wouldn't it be funny if we…” guiding their formation, U.S.E. began as no more than a distraction for the members of the band Wonderful....MORE

She also performs with Menovcik in an accordion and guitar two-piece known as Roxy & Clark, attends law school at the University of Washington and works at the Public Defender's office. One can see how busy Lesli Wood is and how getting Multiple Sclerosis out of the blue could seriously fuck up her life....MORE

Plugged In
By Dan Halligan
I saw ONE CARPER GREEN up at Jimmy Z's in Everett, of all places. The floppy haired emo-looking boys looked and sounded out of place playing with SIX STATE BENDER and THE AUTHORITIES; as I watched them perform, I imagined them more at home playing one of those old Sunday afternoon shows at the Velvet Elvis. But the band was kind enough to pass out free copies of their demo to the crowd and I've got to say I'm more impressed now that I've heard the three-song CD a few times...MORE

Three Kick-Ass Things from Three Imaginary Girls
Imagine you spend nine months of the year away from Seattle in favor of higher education in Virginia. Imagine having to drive two hours to DC, just so you can find other people who know what it is like to want nothing as much as an early Fugazi seven-inch. Now imagine getting back to Seattle and stumblingly trying to get your concert-going feet wet in this glistening navy-blue puddle—where do you go....MORE
