With a twinkle in her eye, Mom is the perennial favorite at the only lesbian bar in Portland. It’s been in business as a ladies bar for nine years. Mom gave us a tour of the huge Egyptian Club complex that includes a bar, dance area and karaoke room. She’s sweet and kind—just like any mom should be.

What’s the story behind the mugs with people’s names on them? You buy a mug filled with Pabst and then you get cheaper prices on Wednesdays. What’s your favorite drink to make? Margaritas. What's your least favorite drink to make? Something I have to look up. What’s the most popular night at the Egyptian Club? Saturday Night. What is the drink "The Nile"? It comes in a fishbowl. A drunk Kim—my daughter and owner of the bar—came up with it. It takes two people or more people to drink the drink. Have you ever had to throw someone out? We haven’t had a fight in here in a long time.
