September is a succulent show month here in Seattle. Here are our three picks of things you should tattoo on your calendar.
9/7, Keane/French Kicks, Showbox Hark—the latest invasion of Brit-pop cometh, and the waves of soaring vocals and layered melodies have never sounded so glorious as with Keane (and yes, you read us right, Coldplay fans). Don’t miss your chance to hear Tom Chaplin’s magnificent voice and Tim Oxley-Rice’s painfully beautiful piano overflow the Showbox. Can they really create that much sound sans guitars?
9/16, Ben Gibbard, Guest DJ, the Crocodile Have you ever wondered what Death Cab for Cutie and the Postal Service frontman Ben Gibbard listens to while he’s driving in his tour van? Here’s your chance to find out. The Crocodile CafÈ not only has the best mac and cheese in town, but it also has started a happy hour guest DJ series. Come listen when Ben brings in his favorite albums to share them with his adoring fans. Did we mention it’s free?
9/29, The Libertines, Neumo’s The Libertines’ drunken tour de punk is a raucous blend of the Clash and the Replacements. But more than that, co-lead-singer Pete Doherty is a wild card who has earned repeated "NME" headlines on his lackluster show attendance record. If he makes it past customs and can control his demons for the night, the show will be talked about for happy hours to come. |
