Happy Groundhog, Valentine’s and Presidents Days! February is great
for incidental holidays and fabulous rock shows. Why not check out a few?
FEBRUARY 2
Visqueen/The Cops/Dark Sergeant @ Neumos
Why do kids go wrong? Poke your head out of the ground this Groundhog Day for a spectacular all ages lineup to find out. The Cops feature members of Kinski and Hello from Waveland, and their debut EP marches with the urgency of the Clash, the melodies of early Elvis Costello and the wacked humor of, well, Visqueen. This show will be worth it for the banter alone.
FEBRUARY 8
Citizen Cope/Marc Broussard/David Ryan Harris @ Showbox
Citizen Cope has ripped through Seattle like wildfire with his storytelling lyrics, soulful rhythms and genre-bending hits. In eight short months, he's moved from playing the now-defunct Hideaway to the illustrious Showbox. Once you see his live show, you'll understand why.
FEBRUARY 12
The Mountain Goats/Crystal Skulls/Black Mountain @ Crocodile
The world of Mr. Mountain Goat, John Darnielle, is a complex one. His philosophies on relationships and relativity are tightly wound portraits of the human condition. He augments his exacting use of the English language with only a ferocious acoustic guitar and a one-man rhythm section to create songs that only grow more intricate when witnessed in person.
