Music on the Go- Band on the Run
Words and Images: Fourth Rotor
|
|
|
|
Music on the go means packing up your band and gear into a cramped van and going on tour! Or in the case of Chicago’s Fourth Rotor, it recently meant touring Europe with fellow underground DIY band PAWNS. Together four years and veterans of many US and Canadian tours, this was Jake, Douglas and Kammy’s first time playing Europe. “This was something we’d all dreamed of doing. It was 55% fun, 45% aggravation, and we’ll definitely be going back!”
 |
“One thing they have in
Europe which we don't have in the U.S. is
long-running squats, which are highly organized
live/work/performance spaces, such as this place,
the Poortgebouw (Bridge House) Squat in Rotterdam,
Holland.”

“The weird ‘pilot’ guy
rocks out to us during one of the best shows of the
tour, at the Hafermarkt Squat in Flensburg,
Germany."

 |
“We played at the Jazz Club
in Cesky Tesin, Czech Republic. It was literally one
block away from Poland. We all walked over there
before the show.”

“On tour you sleep where you
can, including on the way to the club in
Switzerland. At the swanky Kab de L'Usine in Geneve,
there was a smoke machine on stage, but I didn't
know that. I thought Douglas' amp was on fire!”

“Here we are rockin' at
Bar Les Lilas, a local pub with lots of character in
Montpellier, France.”

“Meeting cool people is one
of the most fun parts of tour. Here's bass player
Jake [left] partying with friends in Montpellier
after the show.
