Beginning June 1, Tablet will morph into something new and wonderful, connected to its roots but pointing the way to a better, brighter future for all.
Each month, we’ll be sending readers a gorgeous print magazine—120 pages of the best writing, anywhere, presented to you in a blissfully screen-free, surveillance-free, aesthetically and practically gratifying form. You’re going to wait with bated breath to hold each issue in your hands, and once you do, you won’t want to let it go.
And you’ll get all of that without sacrificing Tablet’s takes on daily and breaking news. In addition to print, we are beefing up our iconoclastic politics coverage as well as our culture section, longform reporting and insights about Jewish life—all of which will now be accessible on a premium website, and via a new and enhanced Scroll, our daily afternoon dossier showing you how to read between the lines of the day’s most important news.
Needless to say, this won’t be free—which is how you know it will be good.
We’ll be making this new Tablet with the help of incredible talent already in the family—including Armin Rosen, Lee Smith, Mike Lind, Marco Roth, David Samuels, Liel Leibovitz, Jacob Siegel, Park Macdougald, Ani Wilcenski, Tony Badran, Wayne Hoffman, and others—as well as some new faces, like Lorin Stein, former editor of The Paris Review, who has joined as executive editor of the print magazine; Charles Curkin, former articles editor at Elle Decor; and Rina Raphael, previously the lifestyle editor at Fast Company, who will help us expand into service journalism with a focus on both the high end and the fringes. Contributing writers and critics will include Justine Bateman, Katherine Dee, Bernard Henri-Levy, Frederick Kaufman, Edward Luttwak, Michael Doran, Leandra Medine, David Mikics, Jeremy Sigler, Blake Smith, Jeff Weiss, Matthew Weiner, and more.
Politics, war, religion, art, technology, culture, celebrities, health, sex, money—we’re going to cover it all. And it will all ultimately be linked together not by partisanship or social conformity but instead by a feeling of enchantment with the world and what it can be, and the belief that it’s our job to help you see that.
“The media’s job is to mediate, which in this case means forming a usable and trustworthy connection between people and the world at large. Doing that for yourself is like being one’s own therapist; it just doesn’t work.”
— Alana Newhouse, Editor-in-Chief
