Marjorie Perloff (1931-2024)
The celebrated scholar of poetry, a fearlessly outspoken critic and Stanford titan, died this week at age 92.
Read her 2019 conversation with Jeremy Sigler on the contemporary poetry canon, the complexities of O.J. Simpson, and the non-Zen of John Cage
And a second, 2022 interview, talking Duchamp and Wittgenstein, again with Sigler
Perloff was also a Tablet contributor. Read her critical review of Ken Burns’s PBS documentary The U.S. and the Holocaust, and her appraisals of Ludwig Wittgenstein’s The Investigations and Elias Canneti’s Auto-da-Fé as seminal works in the Jewish literary cannon.
