I am embarrassed to admit, I am one of those actress/producers that has looked down my nose at Neil Simon comedies as 'unworthy' and "commercial"... though that didn't stop me from using Kate's marvelous speeches (Brighton Beach Memoirs) for audtions. I have not yet read Lost in Yonkers due to my self-important dismisal of Simon's work. Your article has so enlightened and informed and correctly analyzed, that I am blushing with shame and a promise to myself to re-read the plays I do know and to quickly get my hands on the trilogy. (I have only read one.)
Thank you.
