Liana, your mom sent me the link to this, and I am so glad she did! This is poignant and thoughtful and complex! Just first-rate! I’d like to see more of your work.

Beautiful. Love the images embedded into the word “confessional” on the first page.
Speaking of, I often wonder about the impulse in comics towards the confessional. Sometimes I think that comics, as an art form inventing itself from the bottom up, has to begin with the closest subject — the interior life of the artist, the mundane details of the day to day. To tilt toward the absurd: maybe it’s like the mirror stage in Lacan: only after the artist knows – recognizes him/herself – through the art, can s/he move beyond detailing the personal minutia into the larger world.
Visual celebration.
Every page is a surprise.

thanks for reading it – m, i will read lacan. sometimes i think small art is good for seeing everything in the message at once, like a floor plan of a house. kind of chilly and impersonal, but something that you have to do before examining the details separately.
