I was so excited to come across this terrific article about my great uncle Martin Levy. He died when I was a young girl and never got to meet him. Thank you for giving me a new introduction to who he was.

Tracy, I knew a Jos. White who was Martin Levy’s manager on carnivals. It was the late 1950′s and I was a outside talker on Club 18-a girl show he managed on World’s Finest Shows. When he returned to the United States I tagged along and worked with Big Tex who worked a Single “O” out of his custom-made trailer parked on the street. In Canada there exist two books that mention Big Tex. One of them mentions Jos White and Martin Levy while another book mentions the fat-man when he was wrestling in the Province of Quebec. – Giovanni Iuliani

Dear Sirs,

I read with interest your information on Blimp Levy. I am also interested in findsing out information on a wrester called Juan Garmo / Juan Gamo. Juan was wrester and won the title of Mr Coney Island back in the 1930′s/ 1940′s. Juan’s real name was John McIntosh and he was my granfather. If anybody has any information or photograph I would be very grateful.

Found your aticle this morning. Martin Levy was a close relative of my grandmother. I never realized that my family had any Jewish heretage. The article was an engrossing read that I have printed for the rest of my family. I remember my father telling me stories of traveling with Martin during the late forties early fifties after he had left wrestling. He toured as a side show through the south along with my grand parents on the carnival circuit. My dad spent many summers as Martin’s barker at variious show stops.

I’m so glad I found this article. I just purchased this afternoon an original promotional card on Mr. Levy and had no idea who he was. On the front of the card is his picture, where he is lying down and looking pretty ill (imo). On the back are his ‘stats’ as well as his typical dinner menu.

Dear Sirs, I read with interest your information on Blimp Levy.I was also interested about some of his opponents mentioned. Son of Kong and Dara Singh. My Father fought both of these men during his time in Malaysia and Singapore. He fought under the name of Kid Callon and wondered if you or any of your viewers had any info on him. He won the Light Heavyweight Championship of the Far East. Sadly he died in 2008.

I have a small correction as a wrestling fan. Bill Goldberg won the WCW HWT championship in the late 90′s. He did not win the WWf/WWE title until 2003.

Excellent article! A thirty-page monograph on “Blimp Levy” that I self-published earlier this year is available from Quimby’s Bookstore (www.quimbys.com)in Chicago. One of the focuses of my research was Levy’s Jewish family background in Boston. – K. Faig

I recall as a youngster in the 60′s watching t.v. broadcasts from Chicago’s Ampitheatre, bouts featuring “Man Mountain King”—Levy’s style and tradition apparently carried on into the next generation of the ring
