It seems you want to have it both ways. Security for Israel and no road blocks. Well reality seems to prove you wrong. The Arabs do not want Jews in Israel — that includes Tel Aviv as well. The solution is PEACE for Peace. If the Arabs want peace they can have it immediately because 100% of the Jews want peace. But giving away our land is suicidal. So far, we have seen that all the lands we gave only got us war instead.

Coming from someone who grew up in Israel and served in the IDF, Liel’s stance on an issue much too bogged down by fanaticism and fear is extremely courageous.
Aside from that, I appreciate the down-to-earth, compassionate tone of your column, which I turn to week after week for inspiration. Yasher Koach!

Waking up this morning and following my daily routine of reading things on the internet I find interesting, I browsed over to this article. After reading the first paragraph of a post-Zionist Manhattanite (complete with pretentious Camus quote) I did my best to resist reading further and getting annoyed with one-dimensional thinking and hypocritical projections of prejudice. As you have pointed out, though, resistance is futile. So I read on. And I have one question: do you really, honestly believe that these straw-man settlers you’ve conjured out of thin air are motivated more by their desire to make the WB a “Jew-only” zone, and less than their fear for their own lives, their families’ lives? Or is identifying with them in any way too sharp a reminder that they’re people too, complete with the same (irrational) need for “security theater” as anyone else? Oh, and time to show how I’m being a better Jew than the author: the verse in Leviticus reads “do not hate your brother in your heart,” before completing with “you shall surely rebuke your neighbor.” Perhaps the author has paid a bit too much attention to the second half without reading the first.

This is the first time I’ve been disappointed with Tablet.

What great news! The only standing between economic stagnation and growth is . . . slow moving traffic. Now just imagine how the U.S. economy would take off if we can end those traffic jams on the Long Island Expressway and the Los Angeles Turnpike!
