It damages many children, destroys adult's reputations, divides friends and husbands and wives, and has led to wars. Somerset Maugham said that a good friend has "a heart that's kind, a hand that's generous, and a tongue that is neither." That's the view of the writer. But in his old age Maugham's lashon hara estranged him from his daughter and his friends. It’s depressing how uncomprehending this article is of the harm done by lashon hara. I didn't think so ....
