The point is well-taken. The paradox of the faux pas of a mistaken and simple-minded man is rarely clear to him — let alone to those who excuse such behavior by pointing to other — possibly worse — bad behavior. ^-^ It is a matter of egoistic metacognitive dissonance; that is to say, looking too closely may produce more empathy than honesty.

Mr. Bull, I would like to say you are full of it.

If you had Internet access, you would know more of the back story behind these matters. Mo'Nique was merely thanking the Academy for giving her the award despite the fact that she refused to "campaign" for it, like the Weinsteins and their ilk have been known to do. Elinor Burkett burst onto the stage yelling like a big yenta farbrenteh, but in fact she was merely making light of the situation. She and that other fellow had a big dispute over the production of the documentary and weren't talking to each other. When they were announced as winners, he galloped up there like one of your horse friends to speak without waiting for her to join him.

Bull, you may be without blemish, but your homily is not.
