Hanukkah isn't about upholding Torah, it's about being able to practice our religion. It's about action (as a previous commenter said), not about theology.

I never get why liberal politics is considered to be the epitome of our Jewish faith. It becomes even more humorous when people are doing so in the name of upholding Hanukkah, which is all about... UPHOLDING TORAH! The Maccabees would be ashamed of liberal Jews.

Senator Orrin Hatch's politics are outrageously stinky, his Chanukah tune less so. That this is news boggles the mind. I'm going to listen to Barbra Steisand's Christmas album and console myself.

One more reason for this older observant Jew to admire Senator Hatch. However, from the responses I could bear to quickly scan, many more examples of the sad state of Judiasm in this country. If our children are our "builders" as I read yesterday at schul I can't help but be saddened, even during a holiday.

Pretty amusing. We Jews love it when the goyim sing our songs but go nuts when Jews sing theirs. Would Jews be amused if Joe Lieberman sang "The First Noel." Such hypocrisy. One way tolerance. Just so long as they embrace us!

I have no problem with Hatch writing a Chanukah song, and I think he was honestly trying to reach out to Jews...a lovely sentiment. However, the song pretty much stunk.
