I agree, NGreen, that there are good converts. Shannon is NOT one. She and her father Neil Patrick (Picquet) Hines are both scam artists who live off the people they ensnare. I keep track of where he is because when he could not get my money and belongings, he sent a former partner to physically attack me and then tried to file bogus felony charges against me (which were laughed out of the station) – all in an attempt to shame me and get me to give him money to “go away” – Shannon converted for the wrong reason – money – and her father helped her and is benefiting from it monetarily.

Ya know, this situation gives all converts a bad name. I am 51, and I feel that I am a good convert. I studied comparative religion in college, went to a Catholic Boarding School as a child, yet in the end it is Judaism that makes me feel closer to G-d than any other religion. Am I perfect? No…and I don’t think any one here is perfect either. I celebrate Shabbos, Shavuot, Passover, and everything in between. I read my Torah, attend Shul,and teach my 8 year old son.
I just want to let you know that there ARE good converts out here and some of us are more observant than many “born Jews”. To use this situation to judge all converts is an insult to those of US who ARE very serious about the choice we have made.

I do not understand why she converted. Her mother like my mother is Jewish. From the last one who rejected Jewish religious life to the great granddaughter all women and their sons are Jews and can come back at any time by repudiating the church or mosque or buddhist sect they were raised in.

I believe in stricter conversion standards, or at least stricter than those carried out in some parts of the world, and happy to say that Leib Tropper is a scumbag.

He has done terrible harm. Unfortunately, many people will use his sins to continue to make the absurd case that people who do not want to observe mitzvot and live a life dedicated to Torah should be allowed to convert to Judaism. I used to believe media propaganda to the effect that haredi extremists were trying to impose strict and historically unjustified stringencies on the conversion business. This may be true in some quarters, but what I have found for myself is that Rabbis – whether out of misguided compassion, exhaustion or financial reward – have converted individuals without first giving them an accurate impression of what Jewish life entails or ascertaining whether they are ready to go through with it. The wreckage in human misery, especially regarding the children of these converts, is appalling, even if we ignore the metaphysical implications of giving people a new obligation to perform mitzvot, when they will spend the rest of their life breaking them. What is gained by turning an observant Noahide into an unobservant Jew?

It sounds like both Tropper and Orand are very troubled people. However, the fact that Tropper uses the title of Rabbi and then behaves in such a way is definitely a disgrace. A very poor representative of the Jewish people indeed!

Well, now Shannon (Shannon-Rachel) has bagged herself a real Jew. She married Dr. (note – Dr.) Jack Nuszen in August. Yeah, the guy is old enough to be her father. I guess the third time’s the charm. When she gets tired of this one, she can ask daddy to help her file her third set of molestation charges to get out of her third marriage.

Shannon and Neil Hines should do the world a favor and settle down together. Save everyone else a lot of grief and heartache with their deception.

Oh, and according to Shannon’s dad, she was paid money to set up the rabbi.

I’ve seen the video – disgusting.

I have dated Shannon’s father, Neil Hines, for three years. They both are very deceptive in their dealings with people. Shannon sent me an email bragging that she helped her father lie so that he could be with multiple women, with each of thinking we were exclusive. He was talking marriage to each of us at the same time. She called us bimbos and said we deserved it. When she could not reach her father for 12 hours when he was with me, she convinced the police that he had killed himself and had them break his door down. This is an extremely dysfunctional father/daughter relationship. He complained that he had to support her since she couldn’t work and convert at the same time and would hint that he wanted me to give him money. At one point, he demanded that if I loved him, I should buy him a $5,000 Rolex watch to prove it. They both are very focused on getting money from relationships.

I have nothing to gain from saying this but feel that Shannon does not represent our Jewish community in a good light.

The usefulness of discussion boards or blogs is nullified when the only way one can discount a particular point is to cast doubt upon the identity of the person making said point. If you wish to challenge the point being made, then do so with fact. Whoever you are, I suspect my point hit very close to home, and that which was said may be information that one does not want out. This woman should never have been converted. Conversion is done under the understanding that one is going to lead a Torah true life. Shannon had been, and presumably still lives with a Jewish boyfriend. So right after her conversion whatever would have been fine for a goya are no longer fine for a Jewish woman. So why is she still frequenting this man’s house, and spending the night? This is not the mark of a baas yisroel. This is the mark of a zona. If she was going to act like this, she might as well have stayed non jewish.

Hi it is not just oral tapes, there is video where Tropper is clearly visible and his wife and Orand participating in some sort of three way sexual activity, no mistaking the persons involved. Again where are the police?
