In the Beginning…

Jonathan Goldstein tells Bible stories

by
April 13, 2009

“In the beginning, when Adam was first created, he spent whole days rubbing his face in the grass.” That’s how Jonathan Goldstein launches the first story in his collection, Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bible! He goes on to tackle, with humor, pathos, and a healthy dose of creative license, our most foundational narratives, from the Tower of Babel to Cain and Abel.

Goldstein is a regular contributor to the public radio program This American Life, and the host of his own CBC show, WireTap. He speaks with host Sara Ivry about what prompted this literary undertaking, how Bible-versed he is, and why he left Abraham out of the story.
