This week in Tablet Magazine, Eli Sanders profiled Faygele ben Miriam, maybe the most important and certainly the most fascinating gay-rights activist you’d probably never heard of. Rita Rubin chronicled the decline of the nose job. Liel Leibovitz explored the decidedly religious (and decidedly not purely spiritual) system of the HBO series Veep.

This week on The Scroll, we considered a denouement (?) to the Peter Beinart saga, and then a funder of Beinart’s blog gave us his take. Bibi went both ways on settlements. Israel now has Stuxnet, Duqu, and Flame—what weirdly named anti-Iran malware will we learn of next week? They are also getting more high-tech at Ben-Gurion International, checking travelers’ emails.

At home, some Jews named Dianne, Brad, and Shmuley won primaries; some others named Howard and Steve lost. Ambassador Robert Ford poked his head out to continue his case against the Assad regime. The New York City health commissioner condemned metzitzah b’peh.

Abroad, a fascist Greek thug behaved like a fascist Greek thug; Germany’s pro-Israel president was not pro-Israel enough for Germany; Holland kept kosher (and halal!) slaughter legal. Oh, and China, if you’re reading this: Tiananmen Square.

Catch us on The Roll!
