The campaign to boycott goods produced in the settlements is gaining traction both among American Jews (see Beinart, Peter) and in Israel, where thousands have joined Peace Now’s call to defy a law banning boycotts and avoid buying anything produced east of the Green Line. Now, the campaign just got a bit more animated: Abigail Disney—whose grandfather, Roy O., and great-uncle, Walt, founded the entertainment behemoth that bears their name—has issued a statement this morning advocating the boycott of the popular skincare brand Ahava. Ahava’s factory and visitors’ center is located in Mitzpe Shalem, a settlement one kilometer from the western shores of the Dead Sea.

Disney’s statement is far from theoretical: She is a principal investor in, and the former Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Shamrock Holdings Inc., the investment firm founded by her father, Roy E. Disney, which owns about 18.5 percent of Ahava. “Recent evidence from the Israeli Civil Administration documents that Ahava Dead Sea Laboratories sources mud used in its products from the Occupied shores of the Dead Sea, which is in direct contravention to provisions in The Hague Regulations and the Geneva Conventions forbidding the exploitation of occupied natural resources,” Disney said in a statement. “While I will always hold my colleagues and coworkers in the highest regard, I cannot in good conscience profit from what is technically the ‘plunder’ or ‘pillage’ of occupied natural resources and the company’s situating its factory in an Israeli settlement in the Occupied West Bank. Because of complicated legal and financial constraints I am unable to withdraw my investment at this time, but will donate the corpus of the investment as well as the profits accrued to me during the term of my involvement to organizations working to end this illegal exploitation.”

This marks the most recent achievement of the worldwide campaign against Ahava, entitled “Stolen Beauty.” Since the campaign began in 2009, Ahava was forced to close its store in London’s Covent Garden, lost its distributor in Japan, was dropped by a major Norwegian retail chain, and was specifically named in a call issued last week by the Presbyterian Church to boycott settlement products.

I for one, with a family that has always spent our hard earned money supporting
Disney will nevet again set one foot in a Disney park, see another Disney movie, or buy another Disney product. Two plus millions can play this stupid game.

What is the definition of “occupied”? Busy with, filling a void! Too many Jews here stirring the wrong pot! The “occupiers” of the holy Jewish sites, the ones who destroyed them in Jerusalem and used tombstones as paving materials for roads should be made responsible. Instead of putting blame on one side the original guilty parties, those who stood by while Jews were murdered and their lands confiscated should be held responsible. As far as non Jews in my business, stick your nose in someone else’;s pot. You just can’t stand to see the Jew stop wandering!

i wonder if Abigail Disney pays rent to the Seminoles from Florida, and the various indigenous American nations in California, on who homeland she and her corporation on squatting on?

PhillipNagle says:

These leftests tolerate every left wing regime in the world. Rather than condemn Castro they tell us to trade with him. Their outrage has more to do with their left wing politics than real objections to Israel.

EXACTLY! It seems only Jews get to have the”first stones” !

gemel says:

Time to call for a boycott of Disney – movies, theme parks, products, etc.

Sounds like I should start buying an Ahava product, even though I don’t use that kind of stuff.

Considering how many people in the world are having a very difficult time, it’s just so predictably sick that there is so much focus on Palestinians.

Palestinians sure were blessed to have the Jews as adversaries.

Abigail takes after her uncle, Walt Disney who was an antisemite:

“Antisemitism accusations”

“Disney was long rumored to be antisemitic during his lifetime, and such rumors have persisted after his death. Indeed, in the 1930s he welcomed German filmmaker and Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl to Hollywood when she was promoting her two-part film Olympia.[112] Indeed, even after news broke in November 1938 about Kristallnacht, Disney alone among Hollywood producers and studio bosses did not cancel his invitation to Riefenstahl.[113] Yet Disney biographer Neal Gabler, the first writer to gain unrestricted access to the Disney archives, claimed in 2006 that available evidence does not support such accusations. In a CBS interview Gabler summarized his findings:

“That’s one of the questions everybody asks me… My answer to that is, not in the conventional sense that we think of someone as being an antisemite. But he got the reputation because, in the 1940s, he got himself allied with a group called the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals, which was an anti-Communist and antisemitic organization. And though Walt himself, in my estimation, was not antisemitic, nevertheless, he willingly allied himself with people who were antisemitic, and that reputation stuck. He was never really able to expunge it throughout his life.[114]”

Disney eventually distanced himself from the Motion Picture Alliance in the 1950s.[115]

The Walt Disney Family Museum acknowledges that Disney did have “difficult relationships” with some Jewish individuals, and that ethnic stereotypes common to films of the 1930s were included in some early cartoons, such as Three Little Pigs and The Opry House. However, the museum points out that Disney employed Jews throughout his career, donated to several Jewish charities (The Hebrew Orphan Asylum, Yeshiva College[115], Jewish Home for the Aged, The American League for a Free Palestine[115]) and was named “1955 Man of the Year” by the B’nai B’rith chapter in Beverly Hills.[115][116]“”

The account plays down his antisemitism, (widipedia often does) but just welcoming Hitler’s filmaker speaks volumes about it.

The problem with that is that Abagail Disney does not run the company, nor does she hold any sway as opposed to her cousin, Roy Disney, she is just descended from its founders. The company itself is run by Bob Iger, a Jew.

Stop spreading the bullshit that there exists a law in Israel banning boycotts of settlement goods (which haters tout as evidence against Israel’s democratic character). The law allows for those financially affected by boycotts to seek damages in court. When will Jews stop serving up their own people on a platter to the haters? Our enemies don’t need any help entrenching their lies and manipulations into the mainstream discourse, especially from our own people. Tablet usually does a really good job of being on the right side of the line between legitimately vigorous criticism of Israeli policies and outright legitimization. Please fix this ASAP.

2% of the american population is jewish- 50% of the richest people in america are jewish- WHY IS THAT?

Moishe Pippick says:

Jacob Arnon, if meeting in private with Hitler’s favorite filmmaker, what does it say about Disney that he met very publicly with Lenin’s favorite filmmaker, the Jewish communist Sergei Eisenstein?

Quite telling that this myth of Disney’s anti-semitism persists and is exploited by both the left and the right for their own gain.

Tell me this, if he was an anti-semite why did the B’Nai Brith name him man of the year in 1955?
