There’s a new video of Senator Orrin Hatch and the Utah GOP delegation crooning out Carly Rae Jepsen’s ubiquitous radio-friendly jam “Call Me Maybe” at last week’s Republican National Convention. An endless stream of tributes to the song can be found far and wide from Jimmy Fallon and the Roots to the Harvard baseball team. But here at Tablet, we’re sad to see Senator Hatch take this shoddy turn. Not because we don’t dig the song (some of us do), but because we know Hatch can do and has done better.

We’d like to direct you back to his efforts at a Hanukkah song, which he not only performed a few years ago, but he also wrote. It’s called “Eight Days of Hanukkah” and it is better than anything Carly Rae Jepsen could dream of.
