• The European Union will impose a new round of sanctions against Iran and its banking sector and shipping industry as the 27-member bloc tries to pressure the country’s leaders to stop its nuclear program. [Reuters]

• Kadima Party Leader Shaul Mofaz has expressed a willingness to step down from his post to in favor of former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who is considering a return to politics. [Times of Israel]

• Longtime Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who switched parties in 2009, has died at the age of 82. [Inquirer]

• An Israeli court has ruled that a trove of previously unpublished work by the surrealist writer Franz Kafka will be put on display and later placed online by the Israeli National Library. [AP]

• Roth has won the Nobel Prize. Economist Alvin Roth is one of the two winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics this year. [NYT]
