herbcaen says:

with Morsi, Egypt is getting the ruler it deserves. Every year that passes from the Pharoahs, Egypt becomes more primitive. In less than a decade, it will be another Somalia

Afrayedknot says:

And Australia will be returning land to its Aboriginal population any minute now, right?

Pam Green says:

Don’t say that, please. Not everyone in Egypt is an Islamist. Think of all the secular Egyptians who are fighting Morsi and the MB and sharia at great personal risk.

herbcaen says:

There were some sane Iranians in 1979 as well, but Iran wanted to replace the Shah with the Mullahs. The secular Egyptians will soon be fertilizer, and the pre-Islamic artifacts in the Egypt museum will go up in smoke, just like the Buddhas of Bamiyan, Afghanistan

Pam Green says:

The looting of pre-Islamic artifacts in Iraq was intentional as well, and done with the foreknowledge and approval of the U.S. It truly sickens me. Our military contractors actually bulldozed the ancient paved streets and walls of Babylon to put up a parking lot – I kid you not.

Even decades ago, the intention was to prevent any further excavation of ancient Mesopotamia. Do you remember the dam in northern Iraq? It was built in an area known to have at least 400 unexplored tells that dated at least as far back as the early 4th millennium.

herbcaen says:

I would rather the artifacts be looted than destroyed

Pam Green says:

True.
