Larry Thomas: Seinfeld's Soup Nazi(Bostinno)

• Following the death of two Palestinian activists–both of whom will reportedly killed during clashes with Israeli troops–as well as the death of a Palestinian prisoner from cancer, thousands of Palestinians began protesting across the West Bank. In a separate incident, another rocket was fired from Gaza into southern Israel. [AP]

• In an attempt to shore up support for his successor, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is apparently taking a hardline against Iranian conservatives ahead of the June vote. [NYT]

• The Forward has a report on the second Jewish infant to contract herpes after the circumcision employed the controversial metzitzah b’peh ritual. The parents of the child did not sign the mandated city consent form. [Forward]

• Larry Thomas, who played the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld, is none too pleased about having his likeness in gun advertisements that decry New York State gun laws. The makers of the ads, Serbu, will drop the ads. [NYP]

• American Jewish leaders are pressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take confidence-building measures for peace in response to President Obama’s call for a return to negotiations. [JTA]

“American Jewish leaders are pressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take confidence-building measures.”

In case no one has noticed, especially among “American Jewish leaders”, Israelis have long lost confidence in the willingness / ability of the Palestinian leadership to make and implement a peace deal with Israel and have repeatedly demonstrated that lack of confidence in the elections (e.g., Tzippy Livni ran on a “negotiate with the Palestinians” plank and got all of 6 seats). Indeed Israelis are losing confidence in those among the American Jewish leaders who are seemingly incapable of recognizing and understanding what Israel has experienced since diplomatic disaster known as the Oslo Accords.

If these “American Jewish leaders” were a bit more insightful (in other words, open their eyes & mind), they would demand that the PALESTINIAN leadership take real confidence building measures instead of blindly believing that the Pals really want to make peace and accept Israel’s existence and that it is only “Israeli intransigence” that is preventing peace from breaking out throughout the middle east.

“…as well as the death of a Palestinian prisoner from cancer”

This is an excellent example of how the Pals work. A convicted terrorist smokes his whole adult life, develops throat cancer which metastasizes throughout his body and ultimately kills him. The Pals then blame Israel for his death and throw stones (which can easily be lethal weapons. BTW, very often the stones are “thrown” using sling shots which increases their lethality (see, Goliath)) and otherwise riot that Israel caused this guy to die from cancerr.

And in response, the Western MSM, “American Jewish leaders”, etc. etc. give the impression that the Pals may have a point and that Israel should extend confidence building measures in order to mollify the Pals. This greatly contributes to the Israeli cynicism vis a vis Westerners (especially the “American Jewish leaders”) who really love Israel but are trying to save Israel from itself.
