As we mentioned earlier, it’s been a hot summer in the land of the maple, where two Canadian mayors have been accused of some pretty serious offenses. Toronto’s Rob Ford, as many know, was reportedly seem smoking that crack rock in a video leaked earlier this summer. Piling on, Montreal’s first Jewish mayor Michael Applebaum, who was arrested on aboot 15 different corruption counts, reportedly resigned from his post today and declared his innocence.

He is charged with fraud, breach of trust, conspiracy, municipal corruption and secret payments involving tens of thousands of dollars. Police have not said who they suspect handed over the money.

“I have never taken a penny from anybody … the accusations against me are unfounded,” Applebaum said.

The kicker here is that Applebaum took over the post of mayor from Gérald Tremblay who, in addition to having the most Canadian name of all time, resigned over accusations that he had long overlooked corruption in Canada’s second-biggest city.

Meanwhile, there’s always hope for his cousin Bonita.
