Amar’e Stoudemire Loves Passover, Shabbat
The New York Knick also says he’s almost an official Israeli citizen
As we slowly near the end of September’s seriously stacked lineup of Jewish holidays, I, for one, cannot think about sitting down for another family meal. The New York Knicks’ Amar’e Stoudemire, though, is anxiously awaiting the next four-hour-long meal—he told New York Magazine’s Daily Intel that Passover is his favorite Jewish holiday.
“I love the Passover. Passover is a great holy day,” he told us when we asked about his favorite one.
His wife, Alexis Welch, chimed in, “I love our Sabbath dinners, though!” — a sentiment with which Stoudemire readily concurred.
“Sabbaths are awesome,” he said.
As for Stat’s application for Israeli citizenship, he reported that he’s on his way to becoming an official Israeli, and that the process was “going well.” Still no official word on if he’ll be playing on the Israeli national team, but Israeli president Shimon Peres sure wants him to. Until then, you can follow along with Stoudemire’s active Twitter account (@Amareisreal, get it?) for his latest Jewish musings.
