All’s Fair in Love and J-War: Unorthodox Episode 3

Battle of the Jewish dating apps, plus guests Ophira Eisenberg and Henry Alford talk quiz shows, Jewish men, and more

August 13, 2015

It’s Thursday, which means the new episode of Unorthodox is here. This week, Mark Oppenheimer, Liel Leibovitz, and I sound off about the latest headlines: the legal battle between Jewish dating apps JDate and JSwipe (JDate is suing JSwipe for trademark violation for using the ‘J’ in its name), plus a Nazi-themed romance novel, and an Israeli-based crowd-funding effort to reelect Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Ophira Eisenberg, stand-up comic and host of NPR’s quiz show ‘Ask Me Another,’ joins us to talk trivia, discuss the politics of strangers touching pregnant women’s bumps (she’s seven months pregnant), and school us on why women don’t like male strippers.

Our guest non-Jew is Henry Alford, New York Times columnist and author of Would It Kill You to Stop Doing That: A Modern Guide to Manners. He asks why his gaydar doesn’t seem to work for Jewish guys, who all seem to own multiple sweaters and have close relationships with their mothers.
