On Saturday, an estimated 100,000 people gathered in memory of Yitzhak Rabin, Israel’s larger-than-life leader who was shot 20 years ago this Wednesday by Yigal Amir in 1995. The attendees were addressed by members of Rabin’s family and a number of local and foreign politicians, including Barack Obama, who delivered a pre-recorded speech, and Bill Clinton, who worked with Rabin, Shimon Peres, and Yasser Arafat in the early ’90s to broker the Oslo Accord. Said Clinton: “[Yitzhak Rabin] risked his life to create and defend Israel. He spent his life serving Israel to advance your values and your interests. and he gave his life so that you could live in peace. What does it all amount to? Now that is up to you.”
