Adele’s ‘Hello’ Gets the Hanukkah Parody Treatment

Adele’s booming alto (or is it contralto?) vocals have an uncanny way of searing onto the brain. It doesn’t hurt, too, that her music—and the brooding electric pain it releases—is played endlessly, everywhere, helping people cope with their own pain, or shop supermarket sales. And then it’s mostly ruined. It happened with “Rolling in the Deep” and it’s soon to happen to “Hello.” The accompanying music video—all green and covered with rain and leaves and crying and ratty fur coats—has been viewed over 544 million times on YouTube (as of this publishing).

Everything about “Hello” is a dream platform for a parody. Saturday Night Live knocked theirs out of the park, connecting the themes of the song and video in a Thanksgiving-related sketch. And now, a comedian named Ari Blau, has parodied Adele’s hit into—what else?—”Shalom,” just in time for Hanukkah, which, in case you’ve forgotten, begins this upcoming Sunday. Check it out below:
