On Monday, Salmon Salczer, the manager of West Side Judaica & Bookstore located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, saw a man in front of his store who was looking inside through the glass. So Salczer, 52, walked outside—in broad daylight—to see what was up, and approached the man. “As as he exited the store,” reported JP Updates, “the suspect approached Mr. Salczer and repeatedly punched him in the face while yelling, ‘Fuck you Jews, I’ll kill you, I’m a Muslim.’” The suspect, who is believed to be in his twenties, then left the scene of the crime, reportedly on a scooter. Police are investigating it as a hate crime.

Last October, Tablet contributor Zachary Schrieber, wrote an article about West Side Judaica & Bookstore, which was struggling to make rent and compete with the online marketplace.
