A self-taught YouTube chef makes babka, the Soup Nazi’s wild mushroom soup, and those lemon poppy seed muffin tops—with recipes to boot

When he’s not working as a visual effects artist, 29-year-old self-taught chef Andrew Rea cooks foods from popular TV shows and movies out of his kitchen in Harlem and broadcasts the results on his fantastic YouTube Channel, “Binging With Babish” (named for West Wing character Oliver Babish). We’re talking: the prison sauce from Goodfellas, New York-style pizza from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, fried chicken from Louie, those crazy, pun-y burgers from Bob’s Burgers… you get the schtick.

This week, Rea released part 1 of his Seinfeld-inspired recipes, including the Soup Nazi’s recipe for wild mushroom soup, and two others borne out of some Seinfeldian competition: whether the top or stumps are better on muffins (lemon poppy seed ones, to be exact), and who wears the babka crown—cinnamon or chocolate. Rea’s recipes seem easy enough to follow and the results look delicious. Now, to muster the energy…
