Marry a Jew, buy a Wang

Chelsea Clinton has tapped Vera Wang to make a one-of-a-kind dress for her upcoming July 31 nuptials to member-of-the-tribe Marc Mezvinsky. And Wang also designed a tzniusdik, Grace Kelly-like gown for Ivanka Trump, a.k.a Mrs. Jared Kushner. While Trump famously converted to Judaism with the Upper East Side’s Rabbi Haskel Lookstein, it is still up in the air whether Chelsea will take the dip made so famous by Sex and the City’s Charlotte.

About people who convert because they want to marry a Jew:

{1} Tanna DeBei Eliyahu Raba, Chapter 29:

A person who converts to marry a Jew is comparable to a mule (chamore).

{2} Minor Tractates of the Talmud, Tractate Gerim, Chapter 1, Law 7:

Anyone who converts to Judaism for the sake of [marrying] a Jewish woman, or fear, or love [of money] is NOT a convert… Anyone who is NOT converted from purely religious motives is NOT a convert.

{3} Yalkut Shimoni on Shemot, chapter 12, Remez 213:

When a man converts to Judaism because he wants to marry a Jewish woman, G_d says to him:
You converted because of a nebelah [a carcass that was not slaughtered correctly and is not kosher].

{4} Yoreh Deah, Siman 268, Sif 12:

A potential convert must be investigated to find if he or she is converting to marry a Jew.

{5} Syrian Rabbis 1935 Decree:

Conversions done for marriage are “invalid and worthless.”

{6} Rabbi Emanuel Feldman, 1994:

Most conversions being done today are of the quickie variety, usually motivated by the desire to paper over an intermarriage.

Mr. Cohen; Great quotes that tell the truth about most “conversions” that happen in Judaism today. The last quote perfectly describes “conversions” like Ivanka Trump’s. She only “converted” to marry her Jewish lover. Ivanka’s phony “Orthodox conversion” took only 9 months, Orthodox conversions take 2-3 years, she doesn’t dress tznius, doesn’t keep the Sabbath and is not kosher. Ivanka doesn’t only not dress modestly but has worn outfits that bare most of her body. The so-called Rabbi who did who Ivanka’s phony “conversion” should be ashamed!

Shifrah says:

Really, because I see just as many “authentic” Jews that don’t dress tznuit, nor keep kosher. Be mindful of what you do and don’t sit aroudn and judge other folks…

Rivka Yehudit says:

Converts are held to a higher standard. What Ivanka is doing to the image of sincere converts, is shameful!

I only hope that Ivanka will decide to integrate more into the normative world of observant Judaism. No average convert (myself included) could EVER get away with the way she carries herself. If I or my fellow convert friends went around plastering ourselves all over television and magazines scantily clad (by observant standards) with bare heads, we’d be accused of being insincere converts and maybe even have our conversions reviewed, or labeled as insincere women who converted for the sake of marriage, one of the most taboo sins of conversion in Jewish existence. Smarten up Ivanka: get yourself a crew-neck, a little longer skirt, consider a couple of expensive sheitels or even better, some gorgeous hats, and cool off the immodest media.
