As various outlets have reported, the dismembered body of a missing eight-year-old boy named Leiby Kletzky was found earlier today in Brooklyn. Levi Aron, 35, was arrested at his home in Kensington, Brooklyn today for the monstrous murder of the child, a member of the Hasidic community who would have been nine next week. Kletzky was abducted when he asked Aron for directions on the way home from day camp. It was his first time walking home alone, and his parents planned to meet him half way in between the seven-block distance.

As if this weren’t tragedy enough, the New York Times is reporting that Aron, who attended a neighborhood synagogue, told investigators that he killed Kletzky after he realized the extent of the community’s mobilization—his disappearance on Monday sparked a borough wide search, as police were joined by hundred of volunteers—and a $100,000 award, all of which caused him to panic.
