In the worlds of the defense attorney and the fantasy football player, you are only as good as your last week, and being cutthroat only presents rewards. So it’s no wonder, as Sam Kerbel reports today in Tablet Magazine, that the defense attorney Rodney Ruxin in the FX series The League is able to embody those “virtues” through a distinctly Jewish prism without coming across as offensive: after all, he’s just playing to win.

Shalom Freedman says:

Today is October 5, 2011 and on this day an Israeli scientist Prof. Daniel Schechtman of the ‘Technion’ won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Yesterday two Jewish scientists Saul Perlmutter and Adam Reiss shared the Nobel Prize in Physics. The day before that two Jewish scientists shared the Nobel Prize for ‘Medicine and Physiology’. Reporting on these achievements seems to me to be for a self- defined Jewish platform like ‘Tablet’ slightly more important than the items you are discussing today.
