Most Washington, D.C.-area congregations have prominent members. Kol Shalom, in Rockville, Md., was founded by two top Jewish éminences grises, Obama administration Mideast adviser Dennis Ross and New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman. Senior writer Allison Hoffman got to listen in on their annual Yom Kippur mid-afternoon coffee klatch (which lacked coffee, obviously) and, today in Tablet Magazine, reports back.
