Each week, we select the most interesting Jewish obituary. This week, it’s that of Martin Poll, a film producer who died earlier this month at 89. When he built a studio in the Bronx, he set the precedent for filming in New York that arguably has filtered down to the Law & Order franchise as well as Queens’ Silvercup Studios, site of the soundstages for shows as diverse as The Sopranos and 30 Rock. But his real legacy is the several truly great films he produced (son Jon, incidentally, also works in the industry, on a high number of Ben Stiller flicks).
