Israel Story

68 and Counting—Part I

Israel Story time-travels through Israel’s Independence Days from 1948 to 2016

May 25, 2016

This is the first in a two-part series that takes us through Israel’s short but dramatic history. Over the last few months, the Israel Story team has spent many hours in all kinds of archives, learning all they could about Israel’s Independence Day, Yom Ha’Atzmaut. The result is a mosaic of little stories that took place on Yom Ha’Atzmaut itself, in 10-year intervals, and that in some way reflect their era. Part I will take us from 1948 to 1978, with stops in Israel’s first makeshift national radio studio, a Persian carpet store, a Jerusalem parade, and a basketball championship. Next week, Part II of the series will bring us all the way to the present.

Israel Story, the English-language version of the popular Israeli radio program Sipur Israeli, is distributed by PRX and produced in partnership with Tablet.
