There’s nothing terrifically remarkable about another politician or public figure stating his or her opposition to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed soda ban. But there IS something remarkable about Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz’s rationale for not supporting the controversial ban. It is, far and away, the quote of the week:

“I’m not overweight because of Big Gulp sodas. I’m overweight because I eat too much pasta, pastrami sandwiches, bagels and cream cheese and lox, red velvet cake, cheesecake.”

While Markowitz may have gained some libertarian support with his stand, his clear diss to the rugelach lobby will not go unnoticed.
