• A terrorist cell in Egypt stormed an army barracks and killed 15 Egyptian soldiers. The group then commandeered two armored cars and breached the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel, Egypt, and Gaza. Six of the attackers were killed by the IDF after crossing over into Israel. [JPost]

• According to Syrian rebels, Syrian Prime Minister Riyad Farid Hijab (and three other ministers) have defected to Jordan. According to Syrian state news, Hijab was fired. [NYT]

• The Swede: Sweden honored the 100th birthday of Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, who saved 20,000 Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust. Little known fact: the only street in Washington, D.C. named for a non-American is Wallenberg Street. [Times of Israel]

• A London rabbi on vacation in Wales drowned while using the sea as a mikveh. [Daily Mail]

• George Johnson reviews a book on Einstein that posits how Einstein’s Judaism impacted his scientific thinking. [NYTBR]

• The bizarre story of Raymond Roth, a man suspected of faking his own death on Long Island last week, continues. After being ticketed for speeding, Roth has returned to New York and is at-large. [NYT]
