A few more countries jump ship, signaling landslide ahead

• Germany has changed course, saying it will abstain instead of vote against the Palestinian initiative for a status upgrade at the United Nations. The Czech Republic may follow its lead. [Haaretz]

• Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert also endorsed the Palestinian bid saying that the request “is congruent with the basic concept of the two-state solution.” [Daily Beast]

• A few Republican members of the United States Senate introduce measures to penalize the Palestinians, the United Nations, and any country that votes for the measure. [JTA]

• United States officials are considering broader intervention in Syrian civil war as the rebels may have reached a turning point. [NYT]
