Jon Stewart Buys Farm, Plans Animal Sanctuary
Because who doesn’t dream of leaving NYC for greener pastures?

“Liberal Lion” Jon Stewart, long-time host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, can add another title to his ever-growing resume: animal rights activist.
Last week, Farm Sanctuary, an animal rights organization based in upstate New York, announced that Stewart and his wife Tracey had “recently bought a farm in New Jersey with the intention of providing a home for farm animals rescued from cruelty.”
This makes sense for Stewart (who grew up in the Garden State) given his impending retirement from broadcast television. The purchase of this animal sanctuary also appears to make sense for Tracey Stewart, editor-in-chief of Moomah magazine, whose mission is “to inspire connection between our kids and ourselves with the world around us.” She also authored the forthcoming book, Do Unto Animals: A Friendly Guide to How Animals Live, and How We Can Make Their Lives Better.
“Interacting with animals as friends instead of using them for human consumption,” says Tracey Stewart, “is life-changing.”
In December 2014, Stewart dedicated a Daily Show segment to lambasting New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who had vetoed a bill that would have banned gestation crates for pigs in New Jersey. Watch it below.
