• Iran has backed away from a deal to ship its uranium abroad for enrichment, instead proposing that the country buy its nuclear fuel for a medically designated reactor; “Iran has often used counterproposals as a way to draw out nuclear negotiations with the West,” notes the Associated Press. • In his Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture at Stanford University, Sen. Joseph Lieberman spoke against Islamic extremism: “Ending the war on terror does not require that we succeed in creating heaven on earth.
