What’s Larry David Been Doing For the Last Five Years?

Truth be told, I’ve not watched Curb Your Enthusiasm in any dedicated fashion since I was in college. A few seasons in, I’d had enough, I think. Larry takes issue with this, complains about that, messes up, gets yelled at, coughs on a pube, and things rarely come up roses. I get it. Don’t get me wrong: LD rocks and the show is not bad in any way. Nope, I think it was just too good, too relatable, too spot-on and uncomfortable to watch that I realized it wasn’t something I felt I could elect. Apparently, I’m in the minority here.

The comedy began airing on HBO in 2000 and has enjoyed eight full seasons, but no new material has been available since 2011. And Larry David, the show’s mastermind, has been relatively quiet save for a few stints here and there, most of which have apparently been in New York: In 2015 LD wrote and starred in Broadway’s Fish in the Dark, and had a memorable stint as Bernie Sanders on Saturday Night Live, adding some pep into the once unmissable late-night sketch show. So what filled the rest of his time? Now we know.

In a promo for HBO’s upcoming season of Last Week With John Oliver, LD makes an appearance to sets the record straight. For one, it’s apparent he’s been readying Season 9 of Curb, which will air some time this year. But other than that, he’s been doing… well, things.
