Thank God for this distraction. I have taken a break from trying to make it through the TV remake of Dirty Dancing to write this. It’s a losing battle, so let’s instead talk about what happened on Jewcy this week.

Jewcy: In TV news, choose your poison. There are the upcoming scripted shows featuring Jewish actors (Zach Braff and Josh Radnor, specifically) that might be good. Or, there’s the fact that The Bachelorette kicked off with not one, but two Jewish contestants. Jewish geography is very real, so it was frightening how easily we were able to find out more information than we should have about them.

Jewcier: We have a review for The Women’s Balcony, the thoughtful Israeli film about women in religious life officially opening this week in the U.S. (Spoiler: it’s a positive review).

Jewciest: Out there on the magic Internet there exists a music video for a Yiddish-language cover of a German 1980s New Wave hit that features naked androgynous women covered in lyrics. Obviously, we had to interview the weird minds behind it.

We’ll see you in a couple of weeks, after holidays both secular and religious. Have a swell Shavuot in particular, and enjoy this Gefilteria video on how to make great blintzes:
