Each Monday, we choose the most interestingly Jewish announcement from that Sunday’s New York Times Weddings/Celebrations section. While there were several good candidates this week, it has not been lost on us that Huppah Dreams has yet to highlight a same-sex marriage, and we are glad that ends today. The nuptials of Alabamans Larry Slater and Jeremy Erdreich—they were already legally married, while a religious ceremony is next weekend—will in the end be recognized by both religious and legal authorities: They were married in Massachusetts, one of the five states that fully recognize same-sex marriages; and their religious ceremony will be at Birmingham’s Temple Emanu-El, a Reform shul and therefore one that, under Reform doctrine, also recognizes same-sex marriages. No Univeral Life whatever required. Mazel tov to the happy couple!
