The teenage girls at a homeless shelter in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen call Janice Erlbaum “bead lady” because she always shows up armed with jewelry-making supplies.
For Janice, though, the craft lessons are just a pretext. She’s got other reasons for being there, especially on Christmas Eve.
