Preparing for Elul
Kylie Unell offers a monthlong blueprint for spiritual searching in the lead-up to the High Holidays

The Hebrew month of Elul, which this year begins the evening of Aug. 26, is a time of introspection for Jews around the world as we prepare for the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Last year, on our podcast How to Fix a Soul in 30 Days Kylie Unell, a doctoral student in Jewish thought, used the month of Elul as a template for introspection and self-improvement. The insights from her journey remain relevant—and relatable—as we enter Elul once again.
Episode 1: Kylie begins a journey of reflection.
Episode 4: Kylie tries hitbodedut, a form of Hasidic prayer that will take her out into nature to speak to God directly.
Episode 6: Kylie turns to actor and podcaster Raviv Ullman to help her get comfortable with the idea of apologizing.
Episode 9: In the final installment of her journey, Kylie shares her tips for anyone looking for some spiritual growth.
