• Alan Gross, the contractor who remains imprisoned in a Cuban military jail, received a visit from two Cuban Jewish leaders to mark the High Holidays [JTA]

• Baseball player Adam Greenberg made his unlikely return to baseball in last night’s game between the Mets and Marlins. After being seriously injured by a pitch in his first-ever at-bat seven years ago, Greenberg bat once for the Marlins, striking out. [NYT]

• Reported sniping between Israeli leaders Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak may signal that early elections may be coming to Israel. [Times of Israel]

• A second charge of rape against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, this one in France, has been dropped by prosecutors. [NYMag]
