Daybreak: Rand Paul’s Filibuster Ends

Plus Silvio Berlusconi gets a year in jail

• Kentucky Senator Rand Paul’s filibuster against the nomination of John Brennan for CIA Director lasted over 13 hours, ending early this morning after midnight. The main issues of his filibuster were drones and the extra-judicial killing of Americans. [ABC]

• Former Italian Prime Minister (and Tom Wolfe caricature) Silvio Berlusconi has been sentenced to one year in jail for publicly releasing the contents of a confidential phone call he furtively recorded. [Reuters]

• White House spokesman Jay Carney confirmed that the President Obama will be going to Israel regardless of whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is able form a coalition or not. Earlier reports suggested that Obama might call the trip off if Netanyahu can’t reach an agreement with coalition partners. [JTA]

• President Obama will also not be speaking at the Knesset during his trip, choosing instead to address an Israeli school. [Haaretz]
