Greetings from South By Southwest

Following last week’s sojourn to the AIPAC Policy Conference, The Scroll decided it wasn’t ready to give up life on the road, our unhealthy love of convention centers, the opportunity to squeeze our way through some zealous crowds, and talk to some interesting people.

To slake our thirst, we headed south to Austin, Texas, which is home to the growing technology, music, and film conference known as South By Southwest. What started as a tiny festival called “Interactive” in the late 1990s, South By Southwest (SXSW) has blossomed–or bloated, by some accounts–into a huge parade of culture, innovation, hypsteria (hysteria + hipsterism), serving as many as 25,000 participants this year.

In addition to our normal coverage, we’ll be sprinkling in dispatches from the conference as we meet with Jewish innovators and entrepreneurs and measure where technology and Jewish tradition intersect–deep in the heart of Texas.

Check back with us for updates. Looking forward to it y’all!
